Title: Blue Mosaic, Kirsi Kivivirta (b. 1959, Finland)
Kirsi Kivivirta belongs to the Finnish contemporary ceramic elite, pushing the rich ceramic heritage of Finland forward. After finishing her Master of Arts in 1985 she has become widely known for using geometry, perspective and visual illusions when creating her three dimensional imagery. Kivivirta creates highly complex works, composed of hundreds of individual handmade porcelain pieces. Allowing the medium to speak for itself Kivivirta has set out on a life-long journey to explore, understand and experiment with the natural properties of clay.
