About the Item

An important wall ceramic sculpture by Denis Castaing composed of seven parts with different blue engobes. Artist monogram at the base. Perfect original conditions. 2016. A similar piece is available upon request. Clay always brings me back to drawing like drawing always brings me back to clay. Unless I try to draw in space with clay. Obsessed by lines, fold, volume, open-cut surface, empty space. Constantly referring to architecture(s). Architecture of buildings, garments, Industrial objects, dancers bodies in movement, plans of a landscape. My repertory of forms is taken from memorials, signs and fragments of impressions. Through my sculptures, I am leading a quest for movement in motionless. I am trying to integrate clay in a deployment, a tectonic dimension, a rhythm. When some of my wall sculptures inflate the breath of respiration, others spread out. My approach questions the relationship that the sculpture has with the interior space it contains, a place where empty space can act. My works also develop a link with the surrounding space. They are situated between an extension of the architecture and a footprint in space. In each of my creations, I try to establish a dialogue between form and light, shape and color. My idea is to create a sort of vibration around lines and volumes. In the affirmation of a plastic presence for me light a full and essential material, as important as clay.
