A whimsical hand-painted multiple stone sculpture titled "Floating Family" by Karel Appel. Hand signed in red acrylic and dated 1976 on the bottom right with a H.C. annotation on the verso. Published by Editions Press of San Francisco. From the edition of 99, plus 13 Artist Proofs and 13 H.C. proofs. Original certificate of authenticity on verso which is hand signed by the artist and the Editions Press director. This is a dynamic artwork perfect for a modern or postmodern aesthetic. From a private collection. Dimensions: 24"diameter x 7"depth. In very good vintage condition.
Karel Appel (1921-2006) was a Dutch painter, sculptor, and poet. He started painting at the age of fourteen and studied at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam in the 1940s.
