Large Swabian Deer Trophy on Carved Plaque Salem 1903

About the Item

Large Swabian Deer Trophy on Carved Plaque Salem 1903 An antique trophy of the 8-pointer stag (Cervus elaphus) from the Swabian Alb, Germany. The deer was shot by a member of the lordly family of Baden in 1903. The antlers are fixed on a skull that is mounted on a wodden wall plaque with carved acorn decorations, painted in black and green. The place and date of the hunt is written by hand on the skull. A 7-pointed crown as a symbol of baronage and the initials 'CF' are applied above the inscription on the skull. Trophies are mementos from the hunted game, which are kept by the huntsmen as a souvenir or decorative item. For many centuries it was a tradition to collect trophies. Nowadays exactly these are becoming more and more popular as decorative highlights in hunting lodges. This article contains parts of animal origin, which belong to non-endangered and non-threatened animals and follow the US Fish & Wildlife regulations. They are not listed on CITES Appendix I and II.
