Pair of Late 19th/Early 20th Century G.G. Boomer Hunt Plaques

About the Item

This striking pair of late 19th- to early 20th-century German hunt trophy wall plaques, masterfully cast in nickel and brass, are the work of renowned sculptor G.G. Bommer. One plaque features a richly detailed hare, surrounded by an abundant catch of fish, a lobster, and clustered grapes, all cast in gleaming nickel. The second, in warm brass, showcases a large duck alongside a woodcock and a partridge, framed by intricately rendered oak leaves and ferns. Each composition is mounted to an eight-sided wooden plaque, enhancing their presence as decorative and symbolic tributes to the hunt. Gottfried Gabriel Bommer (active late 19th–early 20th century) was a celebrated German sculptor known for his highly detailed hunting scenes and wildlife studies. His work, often cast in metal, captures the natural world with remarkable precision and artistry. Signed Boomer, these plaques are prime examples of his craftsmanship, blending realism with the tradition of European hunting art.
