Red Lacquer Architectural Fragment, C. 1850

About the Item

This antique architectural fragment beautifully exemplifies the textured wear and soft patina that only time can achieve. Given its cusped arch shape and flame-like corners, the panel may have originated as an overhead element to a door, archway, or shrine display. The flat surface is etched with geometric patterns and floral scrollwork and colored by traces of red lacquer, paint and gilt pigments. From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer.
