Art Deco Red Celluloid Bracelet Bangle with Asian-Inspired Design
About the Item
This is a lovely 1920s French Art Deco celluloid bracelet bangle. It features a light hollow tube shape with an Asian-inspired Japanese design around the bracelet.
The hollow bracelet technique is an ancient technique applied to jewelry at the turn of the 20th Century. The celluloid material was used as a flat sheet, then cut by hand and painted, stained, or sprayed with paint. Then, each small piece was heated around a wooden stick to form a tube. When the hollow tube was cool enough, it was reheated, shaped, and sealed to close it and shape the bracelet. Thus, looking closely at the bracelet, you can see the seam on the inner edge and the seal on the circumference.
This bracelet has an intricate design with geishas, flowers, branches, and urns. The background is bright tomato-red, and the design boasts gold, black, and dark red. It is striking and unique.
Measurements: Inside across is 2.69 in diameter (6.8 cm) - outside across is 3.32 in diameter (8.4 cm) - width is 0.32 in wide (0.8 cm) - inner circumference is 8.27 in long (21.3 cm). It will best fit a Large wrist, from 7 to 8 in circumference (18 to 20.5 cm).
Note: If your wrist is more petite, wear this bracelet on the top of your forearm. Flapper girls wore it like that in the Art Deco era.
