This rare, stunning Art Deco Bakelite bracelet bangle features a chunky, domed shape with wave geometric carving. It is ornate with gilded paint application and tiny clear crystal rhinestones. Intense butterscotch yellow/orange color. The bracelet is in good condition, with a visible discolored mark left by an old sticker on the inner circumference. Measurements: Inside across is 2.57 in diameter (6.5 cm) - outside across is 3.07 in diameter (7.8 cm) - width is 0.82 in wide (2 cm). The inner circumference of the bracelet is 8.04 in (20.41 cm).

Dr. Leo Bakeland invented Bakelite in the early 1900s. Bakeland discovered that the material would cool quickly and wouldn’t melt, regardless of the temperatures. He took out a patent on the idea in 1907. The material was heated to a melting point and then poured into molds and sheets to create the different pieces. It was used for a number of things including toys and for electronics parts. The material was never meant to be expensive, but to give those without a lot of money access to quality pieces. Many companies stopped using Bakelite in the early 1940s as the need for World War II related products took hold.
