Elegant Pale Celadon White Jade Bangle with Cloud Motif

About the Item

A beautifully hand-carved pale celadon white jade bangle, featuring a cloud motif reminiscent of the decorative patterns popular during the Qianlong period of the mid-Qing dynasty. The smooth interior ensures a comfortable fit, while the exterior surface is adorned with meticulously carved cloud designs, evoking the grandeur of imperial jade craftsmanship. Emperor Qianlong, a renowned jade enthusiast, famously commissioned a massive jade bowl that once resided in the Forbidden City’s garden. During the Cultural Revolution of the 1960s, this bowl was repurposed as a pickle container before being rediscovered by jade experts and restored to Beihai Park, a former imperial garden. The cloud motif on this bangle bears a striking resemblance to the patterns found on that historic jade bowl. This ram, with its limbs bent in a seated posture, has detailed curly horns and holds lingzhi branches in its mouth. The eyes and mouth are finely carved. The back and legs display russet coloring. The ram, pronounced yang, shares the same sound as the yang in yin and yang. It is therefore a symbol of masculine power and positive force. The ram is also one of the twelve animals in the Chinese zodiac. In traditional Chinese medicine, the lingzhi was thought to regulate different bodily functions. It appears often in ancient Chinese jade carvings, and it represents well-being, longevity, and success. Other than a small indentation on the back, which may be natural, the ram in is in great condition. Similar Ming Dynasty Jade...
