About the Item

German 8K Gold Aesthetic Movement Bypass Bracelet, circa 1880 The delicate design of this stunning bypass bracelet is contributed to the Aesthetic Movement that took place in Europe in the late 1800s. The bracelet’s bypass is held together with a lyrical swath of seeded pearls. The beautiful 8k gold is hand engraved with two different patterns: the top, an intricate floral design and the bottom, a subtle cobblestone. Along the side is a thin gold wire in the form of a flower stem and leaf, topped with a clover containing a pearl and red and blue paste stones. On the interior of the bracelet, there is the German hallmark “333” for 8k gold, as well as a lion emblem and a six-pointed star with a “Z” in its center. The Aesthetic Movement was a shift in art, literature, and decor that took place at the end of the 19th century. The slogan of the movement was “art for art’s sake,” valuing beauty over function and elegance over “crass materialism.” Many of the designs of this period were inspired by Japanese woodblock prints and incorporated flora and fauna, as well as detailed nature motifs. There are ten seed pearls in the center of the bracelet that range from 1mm to 2mm in size. The pearl and pastes in the clover are each 2.5mm. The bracelet weighs 7.2 grams and the interior measures at 6.5 inches. There is a safety chain on the clasp for added security. Circa 1880, this delicate piece is in excellent condition.

Victorian 14K Gold Cannetille Etruscan Revival Bracelet
Located in Venice, CA
A beautiful 14k yellow gold bracelet from the Etruscan Revival period, circa 1880. The bracelet is exquisitely hand-made and is a fine example of cannetille gold work, which is similar to filigree work with fine gold wires that curl around thinly hammered sheets. Cannetille gold work was inspired by embroidery and nature. The repeating curling designs on each segment of the bracelet are harmonious and elegant. The diamond shape of the segment has an oval decoration, framed with gold wirework, and inside this, there is a symmetrical curling design. Each segment measures one inch and the bracelet, made up of six segments, is approximately seven inches. Each segment is hollow, and connected through thick gold links decorated with gold beads. The bracelet feels great when worn, and has a safety chain so that it doesn't fall off. The bracelet weighs a total of 18 grams and is in perfect condition. This bracelet displays the aesthetic tastes of an era of nostalgia and romance. Etruscan Revival jewelry has a rich and interesting history. In the early 1800s there was a large excavation of Etruscan tombs outside of Rome. Within these tombs were pieces of original Etruscan jewelry. The Etruscans were master artisans, they created breathtaking pieces of jewelry through their use of gold wirework and granulation, colored gemstones and glass. The news of the excavation of these tombs, and the treasures contained inside them, spread throughout Europe. Etruscan style jewelry...
