About the Item

An absolutely stunning opal and diamond bracelet from the Victorian (ca1887) era! Portuguese in origin, this gorgeous 18kt yellow gold piece features vibrant opals and Rose Cut diamonds set in sterling silver across the front. The opal cabochons graduate slightly in size, and exhibit stunning shades of green, blue, violet, pink, orange, and yellow, all of which flash beautifully when caught in the light. Gorgeous old Rose Cut accent diamonds create two sparkling rows on either side of the opals, each one resting in a diamond-shaped box setting, and graduating slightly in size, perfectly complimenting the colorful opals. The bracelet is hinged on either side of the centerpiece, and fastens at a small push clasp at the back, with a safety chain for extra security. Stamped on the tongue, safety chain loop, and on the back of the centerpiece are several hallmarks, two of which are of a dog head and a rooster head, indicating it is a piece of jewelry assayed from the city of Porto, Portugal. Whether worn alone or paired with other bangles, this bracelet would look stunning worn day or night! The inside of the bracelet (where a wrist would rest) measures approximately 2 1/4" wide and 1 3/4" tall, and would fit nicely on a medium to average sized wrist. The opal and diamond centerpiece measures about 2" wide, 3/8" tall, and is about 1/8" thick. The surface of the bracelet at the back measures about 1/8" wide and is a little more than 1/16" thick. The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold and sterling silver setting. All of the opals and diamonds are intact and securely set. The push clasp and safety chain are secure and in good working condition. There is a slight darkened patina to some surfaces of the yellow gold and sterling silver, which is common given the age of the piece and adds to its beauty and character.
