About the Item

This stunning 21-karat yellow gold hinged bracelet, crafted in the 1960s by the pioneering late German goldsmith Klaus Ullrich, showcases the post-war modern jewelry design for which he is celebrated. Ullrich, known for creating functional and wearable art, designed the bracelet with seven articulated sections connected by a tube slide clasp, allowing it to move fluidly with the wrist. With its dynamic sculptural wirework, the outer edges of the bracelet appear like a series of paper cuts undulating across each section. Gold was central to Ullrich’s design philosophy, which this bracelet exemplifies. Weighing an impressive 124.16 grams, the bracelet is in exceptional condition and feels luxurious on the wrist. It bears Ullrich’s maker’s mark and is stamped “900,” indicating 21-karat gold. Measuring 7.25 inches in length and 1.8 inches wide, this bracelet is a unique statement piece and a testament to Ullrich’s mastery of gold. Born in Germany in 1932, Ullrich embarked on a journey into fine craftsmanship early, apprenticing in metalwork before pursuing goldsmithing. His artistic vision blended traditional techniques with modern, abstract forms, often incorporating organic shapes and bold textures into his pieces. Ullrich’s designs gained attention for their meticulous craftsmanship and unique approach, positioning him as a significant figure in the evolving modern European jewelry world. Ullrich’s work was featured in prestigious exhibitions. He became known for creating statement pieces transcending mere ornamentation, elevating jewelry to wearable art. His legacy endures in the collections of both private collectors and museums. Klaus Ullrich passed away in 1998, leaving behind a body of work that inspires modern goldsmiths and jewelry designers worldwide.
