1880s Antique Pietra Dura Silver and Gold Brooch

Circa 1880s, 14k and silver, Italy. A charming and wearable example of nineteenth-century archeological revival jewelry, this Etruscan motif brooch features a delicately exuberant pietra dura scene of flowers. From the excellent gold-work to the particularly fine intarsio inlay, the look is vintage chic at its antique best. Pietra Dura is stone inlaid in stone to form a picture; it is a type of mosaic. Remarks from Lawrence Jeffrey: “Drawing inspiration from the friezes in the Pompeian house of Vetii, the black backgrounds of these popular grand tour souvenir jewels have an elegant look that dates back 2000 years.” SIZE: 3 inches long by 1 1/4 inches wide WEIGHT: 17.6 grams STONES: pietra dura HALLMARKS: none, tested 14k and silver STOCK NUMBER: 18872 Jewelry acquired from LAWRENCE JEFFREY must delight you. Purchases may be returned for any reason for a period of 7 days.
