This 1950's REBAJES Copper Ubangi Rectangular brooch is one of a series of many similarly shaped brooches this master of modernist metalsmithing created from 1947 to 1961 in New York City. The artist's love of primitivist images was expressed in many other formats as brooches, earrings and pendants as well. Andozing provides a black backround for colorful higher polish copper details to be viewed against and accentuated. The artist's unique 'formula logo' is clearly in evidence. Approximately 2" wide and 1.5" tall. There is a range of color that is considered normal for Rebajes copper jewelry, and this piece is darkish, rather bronzey in tone.
