Antique 14 Karat Yellow Gold Pearl Cannetille Brooch
About the Item
An antique 19th Century 14 karat yellow gold ornate brooch set with an Orient pearl and cannetille. This brooch is created with alternated gold and rose gold segments. The rose gold segments lie in a slight undulation, giving the brooch a three-dimensional impression. In the center a pearl is placed and set between six prongs, surrounded by a rope decor with floral motifs and beading. Below the top a dangling cone swings freely.
Cannetille typically features fine gold wires or thinly hammered sheets. Jewelry with cannetille was very popular in the the 1900's, particularly in the 1820's and 1830's. Motifs included tendrils, scrolls, coils, beehives and spider-like rosette ornaments.
The brooch is in very good condition and of high quality.
