Antique 1880s Repousse Citrine Brooch

Fabulous Antique brooch with repoussé setting and scroll work in the 10kt yellow gold. This brooch was made around the last few decades of the 1800s, Circa 1880. There were two Gothic Revival styles in the 1800s and this is from the latter. It bears a resemblance to the mourning styles so popular in the earlier part of the 1800s during the first Gothic revival, but citrine is not a common gemstone in mourning jewelry although it was used in mourning jewelry. This strikes me as simply a fashion brooch and not necessarily a mourning brooch, but that's likely subject to interpretation as different books on the subject will state different things in reference to the gemstones used. This lovely brooch measures 1 1/4 inches long by 10 1/8 inches high. The C clasp is of the period, but has been stabilized at some point in the past, as has the hinge portion of the setting. There is no evidence of the citrine having been replaced so it is original to the brooch.
