Antique 18th Century Georgian Bird Pin Stickpin Cut Steel

About the Item

This charming pin with a bird was handcrafted in the 2nd half of the 18th century. It is made from steel. The bird is made out of cut steel, its entire surface is covered with tiny facetted steel nails riveted on to a metal plate from behind. Cut steel was very fashionable in the 2nd half of the 18th century - in candle light the steel rivets were sparkling like old mine diamonds. There is a space behind the actual pin where a feather or a flower could be inserted.
