An antique 19th century drop-shaped brooch created in 14 karat gold. The brooch is set with seven seed pearls and the surface is beautifully detailed with fine filigree and cannetille work. Cannetille typically features fine gold wires or thinly hammered sheets. Jewelry with cannetille was very popular in the 1900's, especially in the 1820's and 1830's. The 1890s bar style brooch is accented with a total of nine seed pearls incorporated within blosson designs to the naturalistic branch. The brooch is ornamented to either end with a yellow gold bird featuring a textured finish replicating the details of the plummage. The brooch secures with a hinged pin and push-pull/trombone safety catch. This antique brooch is hallmarked to the underside of the bar with a maker's mark (GN) and the Austro-Hungarian fox head mark (A, Vienna / 4, 580 standard).
