Vintage Diamond And Silver Upon Gold Star Brooch, Circa 1930, 3.00 Carats
Located in London, GB
A vintage, antique style diamond star brooch, with an old-cut diamond, in a claw and cut down setting, in the centre of a raised cluster of six old-cut diamonds, in grain settings, on a six pointed silver star, each ray set with two, graduating, old-cut diamonds, an eight-cut diamond and three rose-cut diamonds, in grain settings; with single diamond rays, in cut down settings, on knife edge stalks, between the points of the star, mounted in silver-upon-gold, with an approximate total diamond weight of 3.00 carats, with a pin and catch fitting and a dropping pendant fitting, South American, circa 1930. In Victorian symbolism stars represented direction, wisdom and guidance for the spirit. This was inspired by sailors of previous eras who used stars in the night sky as navigation aids. Stars have been popular motifs since the 17th century, with women of the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian eras adding diamond starbursts to their collections. The appearance of Halley’s Comet, in 1758 and again in 1835, lead to a fashion for star and comet jewellery...

Antique Victorian Diamond Brooch Crescent 14K Gold - c.1890
Located in London, GB
We are delighted to offer this stunning antique Victorian diamond brooch made c.1890. The brooch is made from solid 14ct gold and in spectacular Victorian fashion. Featuring a crescent design, profusely decorated with fine old cut diamond of tapering sizes on a silver faced mount, the brooch is most certainly an attractive and distinguished in design. Celestial jewellery was increasingly vogue during the Victorian era as renewed fascination of stars & heavens carried into fashion and goldsmithing. The crescent moon was a symbol of the Greek God Selene, representing of a feminine empowerment and change just like the phases of the moon. In addition to such symbolism, insect designs also offer the perfect opportunity to display high level goldsmithing, with intricate and fine gold/silver mounts, curves and angles to ensure the diamonds dazzle in their finest light. Owing to its silver front, the diamonds and its mount have a uniform chic appearance; lively and stylish yet not too ostentatious. This brooch most certainly makes for a distinguished and discerning choice to wear with a variety of clothing. The reverse side of the brooch has a pin which allows it to be worn with jumpers, jackets or coats. The brooch is unmarked as is common with articles of this period and as such we have tested it for gold indicating 14ct gold. Not only would this piece make for an excellent collectable/display but also serves as a wonder piece of antique Victorian celestial...
