Antique Etruscan High Karat Gold & Porcelain Plaque Brooch after Fontenay

About the Item

A fine antique brooch. In high karat gold. In the style of Eugene Fontenay. Bezel-set with an extremely finely painted plaque depicting an allegory to the arts: with a cherub in drapery holding an artist's palette in one hand, a brush in the other, and painting at an easel before him. The architectural gold work has wirework and granulation throughout. The pin was likely converted from a larger piece of jewelry with a ghost mark of a prior bail on the finial, and a later soldered hinge to the reverse. Simply an extremely high-quality antique brooch! Date: 19th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition with some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Fineness: Unmarked for gold fineness. Professionally tests at 18k or higher.
