Antique Georgian Floral Brooch Featuring 3 Carats DTW of Antique Diamonds
About the Item
This exceptional antique piece dates back to the Georgian design period (1714-1840). This design period is quite lengthy as it encompasses the rule of five British monarchies. This Georgian piece is 14K gold and sterling silver. During this time period the use of sterling silver in fine jewelry was quite common; as platinum and white gold would not come into widespread use until the very late Victorian to early Edwardian design periods. This antique piece features a center diamond measuring approximately 0.75 carats. The center diamond is an Old Mine cut. An Old Mine Cut is a very primitive diamond cut most often seen in Georgian and Victorian antique pieces. Old mine cut diamonds were cut by hand using primarily another diamond. These diamonds have a unique scintillation as they were cut to display brilliance in soft candlelight and gaslight light sources. Their shape usually resembles a cross between an Old European cut diamond and a modern cushion cut diamond. The center diamond grades approximately H in color and SI2 in clarity. This antique brooch features approximately three carats of old mine cut diamonds set in an enchanting and intricate floral motif. Without a doubt this Georgian floral brooch is currently one of the oldest and most exquisite pieces in our collection.
