Antique Shell Cameo Gild Mounted Brooch of Roman Goddess Flora
About the Item
Lovely carved cameo brooch made in the late 19th - early 20th century. It depicts a beautiful portrait of a Flora (a Roman goddess of flowers and spring – a symbol for nature and flowers). The execution of the shell is amazing, and the relief helps to add details and dimension to the design.
The frame is sterling silver (on the reverse side of the cameo, there is a stamp "sterling"). The phrase “sterling” is stamped on many post-1870 USA pieces. One will not find that mark on, for instance, English pieces unless they were fabricated for export.
There are traces of gilding. The clasp is in excellent working order. There are very slight signs of wear on the frame, but overall, the cameo is in excellent vintage pre-owned condition. This is a lovely cameo that will be admired for years to come!
It is a gorgeous vintage cameo brooch with a nice size, measuring approximately 47 mm x 37 mm. This cameo can also be worn as a pendant.
