Indulge in a magnificent Antique Victorian Lava Cameo Brooch Pin of a Renaissance Revival Portrait Bust of the Roman Goddess of the Earth and Harvest Ceres. This is a spectacular and very rare monumental antique Victorian Lava Cameo Brooch with a magnificent deeply carved lava cameo of a figure which is signed by the artist. The face and hair are a masterpiece of artistic expression - the face is carved with exquisite detail throughout. The hair is stunning with extraordinary leaf and wheat sheaves in the hair and magnificent styling of the hair itself. The bust is clothed in an extraordinary fur cloak. This is very rare. The cameo is signed on the reverse.
The cameo is marked Cerere, the Italian for Ceres. The lava cameo is one of the deepest carved cameos we have seen and is a masterwork of cameo artistry. The cameo is set in a gold and gold filled setting. The cameo brooch is a wonderful large size of 1 5/8 inches long. The brooch can be easily converted to a pendant if desired. The brooch dates to circa 1850-1900.
The brooch is 1 5/8 inches (4 cm) tall and is 1 3/8 inches (3.5 cm) wide.
The brooch is 18mm deep.
The brooch is both 10 Karat Gold and Gold Filled.
The brooch weighs 22 grams.
