Antique Silesian Wire Brooch Steel Wire, Polished Cut Steel Flowers
About the Item
The brooch in the shape of a horseshoe was handcrafted out of woven iron thread. The horseshoe is made out o iron mesh and decorated with twelve little flower heads made out of cut steel. Each of the twelve flowers is secured by twelve facetted steel beads.The horse shoe terminates on each side in a raised double rimmed oval element with raised edges held together on the reverse by an oval ring that joins together both sides. The horseshoe is secured to an oval construction with a pin made entirely from thick wire worked into an Iron tube.
This type of jewellery historians sometimes called this kind of jewellery ' Silesian Wire* jewellery in articles on iron jewellery in books on jewellery of the first half of the nineteenth century.
