Antique Bracelet Silesian Wire Iron Wire Mesch Polished Steel Eternity Knot
About the Item
This very rare and highly collectible bracelet is a so called Silesian Wire bracelet. It was hand crafted out of on length of iron wire in 1830 ca. The iron wire is intricately woven The principal ornament is a length of a Celtic eternity pattern. The center of the bracelet features an intricately woven eternity knot embellished with a central ornament made out of cut steal. The edges of the bracelet are decorated with twisted steel wire that is treaded through facetted steel beads. The bracelet has very few rusty spots that could be treated. The closing mechanism was probably a iron wire that connected the two circular elements made from polished steel and secured by a facetted steel rivet.
Altough the name Silesian Wire suggest an East Prussian (today Poland)origin, the scholars are not unanimous in their opinion, there are voices that suggest that this kind of work might come from Belgium.
