Fine circa 1955 handmade sterling silver brooch - pin by Antonio Pineda of Taxco, Mexico, the 3-dimensional flower made of 13 petals with a star burst center.
Weight 2+ oz. Diameter of brooch 5 1/2 inches. No monogram. Marked as illustrated in photo below.
There was a recent Antonio Pineda exhibition 'Silver Seduction -The Art of Mexican Modernist ANTONIO PINEDA (b. 1919-d. 2009) at the Fowler Museum at UCLA Los Angeles (August 24, 2008 – March 15, 2009).
The Fowler Museum exhibition was a large -- more than 200 examples -- and illuminating survey of remarkable jewelry designs. Known for his bold designs and ingenious use of gemstones, Pineda’s extraordinary talent and creative vision are evident in his sensual jewelry and outstanding hollowware and tableware.
The Fowler Museum exhibition traced the evolution of Pineda’s work from the 1930s to the 1970s and highlights his important contributions to Mexican modernism as well as to the creation of a Mexican artistic national identity.
