About the Item
A pair of Art Deco white gold, rubellite tourmaline, ruby, and diamond dress clips, each comprising one emerald cut rubellite tourmaline, eight square cut rubies and thirty-one old cut diamonds, set in 18 karat white gold, with 18 karat white gold fittings.
These beautiful brooches, known as ‘dress clips’, are the pinnacle of Art Deco design. Designed to be worn on opposing sides of an outfit, they are just as wearable today, as they were 100 years ago. They are perfect for wearing on collars and lapels, as well as on dress straps or shoulders - the possibilities are endless! The geometric design is synonymous with the Art Deco period, and the open areas of the design, allow the colour of your outfit to be seen through, creating a very versatile piece of jewellery which will look different depending on the clothes you are wearing.
The dress clips are set with a combination of rubellite tourmaline, rubies, and old cut and single cut diamonds, which glitter and sparkle from their white gold settings. Each dress clip is set with a striking, large, emerald cut rubellite tourmaline, of the most gorgeous pinkish red hue. The rubellite tourmaline stones are bezel set in white gold. The ‘finials’ of the dress clips are each set with a row of four square, step cut rubies, which are well matched with one another and their raspberry hue complementing the rubellite tourmaline perfectly. At the top centre of each dress clip, sits a large, old brilliant cut diamond, sparkling from within a millegrain edged bezel setting. Diamond set foliate motifs surround the principal diamond, elegantly leading to geometric motifs across the rest of the dress clips, with elegant openwork and millegrain details featuring throughout. The dress clips themselves are shield shaped, and the diamonds are bright, white, supremely sparkly, and well-matched with one another. The clip pins are also crafted in white gold and are designed to spring back and clasp tightly, for safety. These brooches are in great condition, with the tourmaline stones showing some signs of wear (nibbles and scratches) which cannot be seen when worn. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The brooches each measure 27.5mm high, 28.5mm wide, and are 5mm deep (excluding brooch fittings).
