Austrian 1870 Vienna Carved Agate Cameo of Heba in 18kt Yellow Gold with Enamel

About the Item

An Austrian carved agate cameo of Heba. This piece feature a fabulous three-dimensional cameo piece, carved from a two layered natural agate, with gradations of colors; from translucent orange brown to frosted white. The quality of the carving is exceptional, with intricate thorough details. for example, the ear and the incised lines of the hair are magnificent. The carving depicts, the naked portrait bust of the classical Greek-Roman goddess, Hebe, (flora) facing to the left, with a crown of flowers and ivy. The mounting frame is crafted in solid rich yellow gold of 18 karats, with smooth borders and embellished with applications of black hot enamel. Suited at the reverse, with a hinged horizontal pin to be wear as a brooch. This piece have a total weight of 56.7 grams and a measures of 60 mm (2.35 inches) by 48 mm (1.89 inches). by 21 mm. Is stamped with Austrian hallmarks; the mark for Vienna, the mark for the guaranty of the 18 kt gold, and with the maker's maitre cartouche. Flora, was the deity of the flowering plants, fertility, spring, and blossoming. Although she was a minor figure compared to other goddesses of the Roman empire, she was important as a fertility goddess. Flora was responsible for the abundance of the crops in spring, so her worship strengthened as this season approached. Her name derives from the Latin floris, which means flower, and her Greek counterpart was the nymph, Chloris. The Sabine King Titus Tatius introduced Flora into the Roman pantheon. Collateral: It is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box. Condition: The overall condition of this cameo is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold or the enamel. An enameled brooch designed by Peter Lindeman (1930-2024). This is a gorgeous modernist brooch, created in New York City by the artist and goldsmith Peter Lindeman, back in the 1970. The beautiful brooch was carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with polished finish and embellished with applications of green and blue glass enamels.The brooch is mounted with seventeen gorgeous white colorless diamonds and is fitted at the reverse with a hinged pin bar with a mechanical twist lock. This brooch may be adjusted to wear as a pendant. Country: New York City, United States. Artist: Peter Lindeman. Period: Modernist, 1970. Weight: 28.65 Grams, (18.36 Dwt,). Diamonds: Mounted in four-prongs settings, with 17 well matched round brilliant cut diamonds, with a total weight of about 1.17 carats, white colorless F, VS clarity.
