A very fine Finnish modernist sterling silver brooch or pendant. By Björn Weckstrom for Lapponia. Fashioned in cast silver to look and feel like folded metal or fabric. Worn as a brooch or pin (and also with two integral bails on the reverse to be used as a pendant for a necklace). Simply wonderful Scandinavian Modern design! Date: 20th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition with some very fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Fineness: Marked 925 for sterling silver fineness. Marks: W 925 L7 and a LAPPONIA maker's mark Measurements: Height: ca. 41 mm Width: ca. 36 mm Depth: ca. 10 mm Weight: ca. 22.5 grams Items purchased from this dealer must delight you. Made in Finland. Very good condition, no carvings. In 1963 Björn Weckström started co-operation with jewelry manufacturer Kruunu-Koru Oy (later Lapponia Jewelry) and its owner Pekka Anttila. Weckström became company’s designer and art director. In 1965 Weckström took part in the International Jewelry Contest in Rio de Janeiro, where his yellowgold and tourmaline necklace “Flowering wall” won the Grand Prix. Through this distinguished award, the company received worldwide recognition, launching Lapponia’s international success. His designs have been in continuous production with Lapponia ever since.
