About the Item

Limoges enamelist artist Mauricette Pinoteau created this stunning romantic pin brooch. The ovoid sterling silver frame has an enamel-on-copper cameo. The Art-Deco-inspired motif boasts a geometric design with pink, hot pink, white, and black colors over a silver foil background. The hand-written signature is visible on the underside, and the piece has a security closing clasp. Measurements: 1.25 in wide (3.1 cm) x 1.57 in high (4 cm). About: Mauricette Pinoteau is currently the sole keeper of the knowledge and history of the Camille Fauré atelier. She entered the studio in 1972 and learned the demanding art of enamel until 1978. "I was 19 years old," she says. "I did not know anything about enamel. I came from the tapestry I had studied at Aubusson Art School." Andrée Fauré, Camille Fauré's daughter, led the workshop with her husband, Louis Malabre. Camille Fauré died in 1956. Along with her new teachers, the young apprentice discovers the fascinating world of enamel work. Everyone is respectful of the work of the other. The young people are there to learn, the old ones to transmit. Each has a specific function according to the disciplines: geometric enamel, painted enamel, and grisaille. The workshop had 25 people. They were free of their time. But their level of requirement was very high. If a defect was detected, the part was immediately destroyed, and they had to start all over again until they finally achieved perfect quality. They wanted to achieve perfection. Mauricette becomes a reliable connection for the dissemination of enamel art. This is a well-placed trust because today, she is the only heiress of the know-how and the living memory of the Faure workshop liquidated in 1985. She opened her shop in Limoges in 1991, where she still works.
