This exceptional cameo brooch depicts a famous mosaic by the 2nd Century BC artist Sosus of Pergamon. Its was a subject of intrigue for Pliny the Elder, and as such became known as "The Doves of Pliny". The shell cameo sits in a 15ct gold late Georgian mount, and likely dates to the same era.
