Late 19th Century Diamond Brooch
About the Item
A late nineteenth century diamond brooch, finely modelled in the form of a violin, the body encrusted with rose-cut diamonds and the strings, neck and head in rose gold, French Import mark to the brooch pin, circa 1890, measuring approximately 1.3x4.1cm, gross weight 6.2 grams.
This antique brooch is in very good condition for its age. Tested as 14ct gold and silver, with 9ct gold pin.
This lovely piece comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. In the mid to late nineteenth century, novelty jewellery became popular, and this finely made violin brooch reflects the trend towards novelty items. The body of the violin is set throughout with sparkling rose-cut diamonds, and the neck and strings are created from fine rose gold, which provides a beautiful complement to the diamonds. This delicate and detailed piece would look beautiful pinned to a jacket lapel or tie.
Should you choose to make this purchase we would be delighted to send it to you in a Bentley & Skinner handmade leather case packed in a gift-wrapped Bentley & Skinner black and gold presentation box. Shortly afterwards we will send you on a valuation for insurance purposes for your reference and safekeeping.
