A Late Victorian Caduceus Pearl And Diamond Stick-pin
About the Item
A late Victorian caduceus pearl and diamond stickpin, the two entwined snakes with black enamel decorations, the wings encrusted with rose-cut diamonds, the staff terminating to a pearl on each end, mounted in silver and gold, with gold pin, circa 1890, measuring 2 x 1 cm, the pin measuring 6.8cm long, gross weight 1.8 grams.
This antique stick pin is in very good condition for its age. Unmarked, tested as silver and 18ct gold.
A charming Victoria caduceus pearl and diamond stick pin. This stickpin is encrusted by rose-cut diamonds with a pearl on each end of the staff. The caduceus is the staff carried by Greek god Hermes, the two serpents are supposed to represent the fighting serpents which the god separated bringing peace between them. This delightful stickpin comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. It would make the perfect gift for anyone interested in Greek mythology and would look charming on a lapel or tie.
Should you choose to make this purchase we would be delighted to send it to you in a Bentley & Skinner handmade leather case packed in a gift-wrapped Bentley & Skinner black and gold presentation box. Shortly afterwards we will send you on a valuation for insurance purposes for your reference and safekeeping.
