Lovely Georgian Paste Corsage Brooch

About the Item

Lovely Georgian Paste Corsage Brooch with foiled chrysolites from the late 18th Century. Handmade brooch (likely Portugese) in heavy silver closed back settings. All chrysolite stones are custom hand cut to form this stunning floriform drop pendant brooch. Deep settings are inserted with garnet ruby colored foils which provide both color and depth. Each stone is thus rimmed in pale yellow ( Chrysolite is form of olivine with a yellowish cast. ) halo with a deep garnet center due to the reflections of the period stone cutting. Very lovely dimensional effect. Excellent condition for an 18th Century brooch. 1770's Portugal. Heavy Gold fittings are added later. 2.75" x 2.5".
