About the Item

A beautiful Michal Golan bracelet and brooch pendant set includes: A gold plated brooch is which is adorned with seed pearls, abalone, green glass stones and beautiful filigree heart designs. Very high quality and versatile piece of jewelry art which can be worn as a brooch or pendant. Oval shaped piece is not large, 1 3/4" long by 1 " wide. A matching station bracelet comes with the brooch it has 3 oval sections separated by diamond shaped sections. It closes with a simple bridge through hopples closure. Michal Golan is an Israeli born, New York City based painter and jewelry designer. Michal created hand worked jewelry pieces which combine the look of antique with contemporary fashion sensibility. Her unusual style and technique and meticulous attention to detail distinguish these ornately jeweled designs. Michal designs are inspired by Byzantine jewelry with its generous use of gemstones and pearls, and from jewelry made during the regime of Queen Victoria. Influences from Middle Eastern art, particularly Mosaic styles, are apparent in her lavish decoration of surfaces and use of brilliant color. Combining geometry, beauty of nature, fantasy and high craftsmanship, jewelry is deservedly popular with women and lovers of costume jewelry.

The Brooch is unsigned, however, the Bracelet is fully signed by the Artist in electric pen. Signed: ORIGINAL KEN and XOCHITL BELDIN MEXICO 1958. Xochitl may have been Beldin’s wife or mistress. Ken Beldin (1900-?) Was born in Mississippi and educated at U. of C. Berkeley. He retired as head of a successful ad agency in Los Angeles in 1931 to travel through the Southwest. He worked for a time with Mexico’s National Railways attracting tourists to travel to Mexico by rail and was drawn into the rugged beauty of Mexico and its people. He set up a studio in Tenencingo South of Mexico City near Taxco and began creating one-of-a-kind jewelry and sculpture. He was the custodian of a collection of archeological Pre-Columbian stones, and it was from these he derived his motifs. His "modern Primitive" jewelry was considered to have the most feeling and the most authentic look of the Period. He worked throughout the 1940s and 50s with copper, brass, steel, wood and leather. His work was admired and collected by some of the elite of Hollywood including Barbara Hutton, Edward G.
