Monique Vedie Talosel Resin Purple and Green Floral Brooch, Line Vautrin School

About the Item

This gorgeous Monique Vedie Talosel or resin brooch features a stylized dimensional flower shape in pearlized purple and green colors. The rare piece has a security closing clasp at the back and can also be used as a pendant necklace, thanks to a brass hook on the lower side. There is no visible designer's mark. Dimensions: 1.75 in wide (4.5 cm) x 2.19 in long (5.6 cm). Note: Monique Vedie was born in the 1920s and has been a student at the Line Vautrin School in Paris, where she learned her Talosel process. Vedie founded her company by designing cellulose acetate jewelry in vibrant hues, including fruits, flowers, and a few characters. In the beginning, the look of her pieces was very similar to Vautrin's work. All the pieces were hand-made. None of Vedie's works are signed, but the style is distinct and easily identifiable. Before retiring in 1992, she worked with many prestigious Parisian fashion houses like Lanvin, Dior, and Ungaro. The signature style established by Vedie is continued under the CILEA brand by present designer Stephane Ravel. Cilea Paris now primarily works for the French designer Françoise Montague. TALOSEL is a material created by Line Vautrin. It is made of synthetic resin elaborated at the end of WWII. This 1950s patented term is an acronym for aceTAte de celluLOSe ELabore (Elaborate Cellulose Acetate).
