Old Mine Diamond Ruby Sapphire Enamel Insect Bug Fly Brooch Art Nouveau Gold
About the Item
This is a stunning antique Art Nouveau - Art Deco Enamel, Rose Cut and Old MIne Cut Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire and Pearl Fly Bug Insect Brooch Pin in 10 Karat Gold. The magnificent insect brooch has a central 1/2 Carat Old Mine Cut Diamond of great beauty. Above the Old Mine Diamond is a very fine round faceted Ruby of vivid red color and approximately 1/4 Carat in size. The eyes of the insect are set with two blue Sapphires. The upper wings are decorated with gorgeous red Enamel. The lower wings are set with six Rose Cut Diamonds. The tail is set with an exquisite baroque pearl. The brooch is 10 Karat Gold.
Insects, flies, bugs and the natural world were a favorite of the artists of the Art Nouveau period and their wonderful designs are as coveted today as when they were created. This lively animated insect brooch is one of the most beautiful we have seen with its exquisite use of fine gems, gorgeous antique diamonds and vivid red enamel. All of the gems are set "a jour" - open backed, in order to let the maximum amount of light through the gems and create the diaphanous light filled effect of the wings and body of the insect. The dramatic insect will dance delightfully across the body when worn and insect jewelry is all the rage today! The brooch can be easily converted to a pendant if desired.
The brooch is 1 1/4 inches (32mm) tall and the legs are 31mm wide.
