Cartier Art Deco Diamond & Sapphire Clip Brooch/Hair Barrette, c. 1920
Located in Aspen, CO
Cartier, signed and numbered, Art Deco Diamond and Sapphire Platinum Antique Brooch and Hair Barrette, Signed and numbered by Cartier, this Art Deco jewel is magnificent. The natural unheated sapphires (probably from Burma), are a bright vivid blue, they are estimated to weigh 4.5 cts. The diamonds are all well matched, estimated to be F in color (colorless), and very, very slightly included (VVS) in clarity. They are estimated to weigh .98 cts. This piece can be worn either as a brooch or as a hair barrette. Leave it to the great jeweler Cartier to design a piece that can slide through fabric smoothly and easy to wear in the hair and, because this clip is slightly curved it will hold any thickness of hair. The two pinstems squeeze together and each fit into its holder making the barrettes quite comfortable. This Cartier Art Deco diamond and unheated Burma sapphire platinum brooch/hair barrette was purchased with an architecturally identical but very slightly larger ruby brooch (1/16th inch longer, and 1/8th inch wider). This very slightly smaller sapphire Cartier brooch measures 1- 7/8th in length, and one half of an inch in width. The diamond and unheated Burma Ruby brooch...

Haute Couture Shocking Pink and Blue Schiaparelli Kings Ribbons Bow Brooch
Located in New York, NY
Elsa Schiaparelli: "I gave to pink, the nerve of the red, a neon pink, an unreal pink, Shocking Pink" Yves Saint Laurent: Schiaparelli's pink was "an aggressive, brawling, warrior pink” Elsa Schiaparelli's "Shocking" Pink was a color which derived from a 17.27 carat rose colored Cartier diamond known as the Tete de Belier, belonging to her friend and client, Daisy Fellowes. Shocking Pink was used for the eponymous perfume "Shocking", which was launched in 1937. The packaging was designed by artist Leonor Fini and the bottle was based on Mae West's curvaceous figure. Her first shoe-hat, designed for her autumn 1937 collection, had a Shocking Pink heel. Salvador Dali loved the color so much he used it for one of his own works, “an enormous stuffed bear...
