Pearl and Diamond Clover Brooch
About the Item
A Victorian pearl and diamond clover brooch, set with brilliant-cut diamond to the centre surrounded by three pearl set petals each within a diamond-set frame, to a stylized gold stem and further diamond decorations, measuring approximately 5.2 x 2cm, gross weight 10 grams, circa 1880.
This exquisite pearl and diamond brooch was made in around 1880 and comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. It features a gold bar to which is set a three-leaf clover. The leaves of the clover are set with creamy pearls and bordered by lively old-cut diamonds. The clover has long held lucky symbolism, and in the Victorian era also symbolised the Holy Trinity of Christianity. A lovely and delicate piece.
