Bold Gold was a huge trend in the late 1980's in part due to the enormous influence that Robert Lee Morris had in the fashion and jewelry industries in the USA. His collaborations with Donna Karan helped to propel his reputation across Europe and Asia, and such brooches as this became popular. This is a large, gold plated brass abstract brooch, called the Aardvark due to the long nose shape. The delightful coils of soft organic metal are iconic Morris designs, and this work is as classic and relevant for today's fashion as it speaks to the current use of very large gold metal accessories on the French runways in 2022-2023.
