Second Empire Yellow Gold and Diamond Serpent Brooch

About the Item

A Second Empire yellow gold and diamond serpent brooch, in the form of an entwined serpent, the head with rose-cut diamond-set eyes, all in 18 carat yellow gold mount, with single brooch pin to reverse bearing French Assay marks, attributed to Maison Paul Robin, circa 1860, overall dimensions 2.6cm by 2.4cm, gross weight 11.8 grams. This antique brooch is in excellent condition. This is a wonderful mid-nineteenth century brooch. Made in France in around 1860, this piece comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. This simple and bold brooch is crafted into the shape of an elegant, coiled serpent in smooth 18 carat yellow gold. The eyes of the serpent are lively rose-cut diamonds. This fabulous piece is simple and elegant and would look perfect adorning a jacket lapel. This brooch is attributed to Maison Paul Robin. See similar example in Vever, H. 'French Jewelry of the 19th Century', Thames & Hudson, 2001, p1014. Should you choose to make this purchase we would be delighted to send it to you in a Bentley & Skinner handmade leather case packed in a gift-wrapped Bentley & Skinner black and gold presentation box. Shortly afterwards we will send you on a valuation for insurance purposes for your reference and safekeeping.
