Sterlé Paris 1960 Paradise Bird Brooch In 18Kt & Platinum With 6.72 Ctw Diamonds

About the Item

Paradise bird brooch necklace designed by Pierre Sterlé (1905-1978). An impressive piece of jewelry, created in Paris France at the jewelry atelier of Pierre Sterlé, back in the early 1960. This is a convertible necklace-brooch, designed in the shape of a bird of paradise, with multiples stylized feathers. It was crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with textured patterns and elements in platinum for the setting of the one hundred twelve white colorless diamonds. It is fitted at the reverse with a hinged vertical double pin with a trombone security lock and two discrete hooks to wear in a chain as pictured. The construction of the piece is amazing!, each part was individually constructed and assembled by screws, nuts and pins. This kind of construction's method, was very characteristic of Sterlé and was the reason for his success as one of the best jewelers in Paris. Diamonds: Mounted in a French pave setting, with 112 Brilliant round cut diamonds, 6.72 carats, white colorless E/F color, VVS-1 clarity. Emeralds: The eyes are mounted in four-prongs settings, with 2 round faceted natural vivid green Colombian emeralds, 0.12 carats. Weight: 40.20 Grams, (25.77 Dwt.). Chain: The chain necklace is 16 inches (50 Cm). Measurements: 55 mm by 56 mm by 23 mm (2.56 x 1.02 x 0.91 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with French marks; twice with the marks for the assay and warranty of the 18kt gold and the platinum, the maker's maitre mark PS inside a lozange cartouche associated to Pierre Sterle and signed, "STERLE PARIS". Pierre Sterlé He was a French jeweler, born in 1905 and was the son of a family of bankers. After the death of his father during the first world war, he was sent to live with an uncle, a jeweler in Paris, who introduced him to the profession. In 1934, he started his own establishment. He enjoyed the support of many large jewelry houses, such as Boucheron, Chaumet and Ostertag, for whom he was already designing jewelry. In 1939, he premiered a range of jewelry specifically for individuals. The writer Colette, fascinated by his work, was one of his first clients. In 1943 he moved to larger premises at 43 avenue de L'Opera, close to place Vendome. Approaching the world of high fashion, he began a collaboration with designer Jacques Fath. During his life, he was known as the “couturier of jewelry” to socialites. Considered during his lifetime to have been an inspired innovator, he reached his apogee in the 40’s and 50's. his work, with precious stones and metal was inspired by nature. Collateral: It is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box. Condition: The overall condition of this brooch is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold. Pendant brooch designed by Verdura. This is a very rare and bold versatile pendant-brooch created in Milan Italy by the renowned jewelry house of Verdura, back in 1970. The piece is pretty large and has been crafted in the shape of six curved-arms Maltese cross in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with a finish of high polish and accented in the center with a platinum element for the settings of the diamonds. This center is mounted with an impeccable pave setting composed by natural white colorless diamonds. The brooch is fitted at the reverse with hinged double pins with a trombone security lock. This is a gorgeous piece masterfully crafted and surely will pop up to the wearer. Modeled after the Maltese crosses Fulco di Verdura first created for Chanel in the 1930s, this Ray brooch is one of the firm’s earliest and most popular designs. It quickly found favor with the era’s most stylish women including Millicent Rogers and Truman Capote’s Society Swans. The rich, golden rays center on a pavé-set diamond knot motif. Diamonds: The platinum parts are mounted in a pave setting, with 138 calibrated round brilliant cuts diamonds, with a total weight of about 9.66 carats, white colorless E/F color, VS-1 clarity. Weight: 75.30 Grams, (48.30 Dwt). Measurements: 70 mm by 72 mm by 15 mm (2.76 x 2.85 x 0.60 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark, the mark for the assay and warranty of the 18kt gold and the platinum, the seven-digits inventory serial numbers and signed, "VERDURA .750 18KT PLAT VEC4598". Verdura The Duke Fulco di Verdura (1899-1978), start his career as a designer in Paris in 1920, Creating the iconic Maltese cross cuff bracelet for his friend Coco Chanel. In the 1934 he moved to the United States and closely collaborate with Paul Flato in California, designing jewelry for the Hollywood stars of the new movie era, including Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich.
