Unusual Art Deco Bakelite Gazelle

About the Item

Unusual Art Deco Gazelle brooch of tortoise bakelite clad with silver metal. Artisans in the period found novel ways to treat hand carved bakelite whimsies like this. Covering (cladding), using hot metal over the bakelite was one process in which the pieces were transformed to another level. Very unusual and charming. Very large in scale, 5" x 1.25". 1930's USA. Excellent condition.
