An Impressive & Rare Early Napoleanic Era Victorian 1800-1850s Ruby & Old Mine Cut Diamond Set Royal Princess/ Queen Swan with Crown Necklace Pendant / Brooch, Basic Dimensions & Specifications - 59mm Tall bottom of ail to top of Crown x 40 mm wide from tail to wing - 142 old mine hand cut diamonds totaling approximately 7/8 carats in total & 3 Ruby set hand cut faceted round cut stones designed as the princess/queen crown * The diamond cuts are comprised of round & oval old mine cut stones. Catalog note The present swan princess/queen form shaped brooch is a very impressive and stunning example of very fine 1800s antique jewelry. The present example which can be fashioned as either a pendant on a necklace or worn as brooch on a lapel or sweater/jacket is carefully designed as a three dimensional Royal Princess/Queen Swan Brooch adorned with a ruby set crown and eye. The form shape in particular is very collectible when compared to other shapes as it was more common for examples of early jewelry design to be of crescent moons, snowflakes, lizards, and especially flowers. Generally as the form shapes are more unique especially for the region as swans were not native to France especially where so many jewelry designs emulated from it was extremely unique to find designs in swans and even more unique for an example this early to be designed wearing a royal crown upon its head. Additionally, interesting to note is that during this timeframe colored stones were also not typically incorporated on more common designs and the additional density which colored stones especially ruby required additional gemsetting skill level and attention to detail making the present example an beautiful example to collect for even the most experienced antique jewelry collector as research suggests no other examples of a swan in such shape recorded which has sold in recent years.
