Victorian Antique Tassel Pinchbeck Brooch Excellent Condition Circa Early 1800s
About the Item
This brooch displays classic, early Victorian style.
It has been lovingly handmade with delicate cannetille accents. A tassel fringe dangles elegantly across the bottom of the brooch. It is so typical of the early Victorian era.
We brought this piece back from the UK and I can't find anything like it online. It measures approximately 4.5cms x 4.5cms and it protrudes by about 1.5cms. The pin, hinge and C clip are all in good condition and operating well.
The brooch is made of 'Pinchbeck'. Many of you may not have heard of this term before, so here is some information about it.
"Pinchbeck, is the name given to most base‐metal imitations of gold made before 1860, is attracting the interest of collectors more concerned with acquiring fascinating design than precious metal.
In about 1730, Christopher Pinchbeck, a London watch maker, invented a brass alloy that might pass for gold. By 1750, and for the next century, any of the many variations of his formula were called pinchbeck. When low karat gold was perfected in 1854, the popularity of the brass alloys was greatly reduced."
This places our gorgeous brooch in the early 1800s and prior to the Victorian 'mourning' period. It's just a lovely piece of antiquity.
We offer free postage to most countries and a 7 day money back guarantee.

The 1920s places them very early in the era of ‘colour-change’ creation (please continue reading to learn about their history). They are crafted in 10ct Rose Gold and they are unusual because the clips open at the front of the setting. These settings are typical of the 1920s and called ‘Dormeuse’, or sleeper in the French language. The style was constructed with a back-to-front ear wire so that they can be worn by day and are comfortable when asleep. They were popular in the mid 19th to earlier 20th centuries. Quick History of ‘Corundum Imitating Alexandrite’ Alexandrite is a ‘colour change’ gemstone...Category
