About the Item

An exceptional and unusual multi-gemstone insect scatter pin from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This stunning piece is comprised of two matching open-winged insect pins linked together by a fantastic gemstone flexible link. All three parts are crafted in 18kt yellow gold, with the pins topped in sterling silver, together creating a fabulous mixed metals appeal. The abdomen of each insect is portrayed by a rich elongated natural pearl that rests below a round, soft pink natural pearl, both of them exhibiting a wonderful shimmery luster. Lining the wings and surrounding the larger pearls are sparkling old Rose Cut diamonds, with facets that catch the light brilliantly with every turn. Six textured gold legs peek out from the sides and a pair of vibrant opal cabochons represent each set of eyes. The 3-dimensional pins connect together by a row of sparkling gemstone links that form a flexible design. The vibrant stones graduate slightly in size, and are comprised of luscious rubies, old Mine Cut diamonds, vibrant green emeralds, and a pair of rich blue sapphires, coming together form a fabulous uniformed pattern of colors. Each stone rests in a scalloped bezel open-back setting, allowing the light to pass through and reflect the colors beautifully. Resting at the back of each pin is a simple pin bar and secure clasp, allowing this incredible piece to fasten to a favorite garment. An incredibly versatile and statement making piece, this gemstone scatter pin would make a outstanding addition to any collection! When fully extended, the entire piece measures approximately 4" wide. Each insect measures slightly more than 1" wide, about 3/4" tall, and is about 3/8" thick. The gemstone chain measures approximately 2 7/8" long, and is about 1/8" wide at the center.

Wear consistent with age and use. The overall condition of the set is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold and silver setting. All of the pearls, diamonds, and gemstones are intact and securely set. The bar pins and clasps are secure.
