A Victorian Garnet And Diamond Scarab Pin/ring

About the Item

A Victorian garnet and diamond scarab pin/ring, the body of the scarab formed by a red cabochon-cut garnet applied with rose-cut diamond-set decorations , the head set with an old European-cut diamond estimated to weigh 0.3 carats and cabochon-cut ruby-set eyes, the legs and claws embellished with rose-cut diamonds, all set in silver to yellow gold back, circa 1870, to a later yellow gold ring with split shoulders and ridged shank, and associated stick pin fitting, the scarab measuring approximately 2 x 1.7cm, finger size M ½, gross weight 12.7 grams. Unmarked tested as 18ct gold and Silver. Victorian ring in good condition for age , some signs of abrasion and wear to the garnet. An outstanding Victorian scarab ring from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. During the mid-Victorian era, archaeological excavations gave rise to a renewed interest in the ancient world. This ring is inspired by the ancient Egyptian scarab beetle motif. The beetle is made from a single impressive and glowing cabochon garnet set with glittering diamond details on its body and bright ruby eyes. This ring is bold and eye-catching on the finger and is a splendid example of Egyptian revival Victorian craftsmanship. The finger size of most of our rings can be adjusted and our workshop will be happy to do this free of charge. If you do not know your finger size please request us to post you a finger measure. Should you choose to make this purchase we would be delighted to send it to you in a Bentley & Skinner handmade leather case packed in a gift-wrapped Bentley & Skinner black and gold presentation box. Shortly afterwards we will send you on a valuation for insurance purposes for your reference and safekeeping.
