About

Cameos were historically the favorite jewelry trend of the Victorian period being worn by such notables as Queen Elizabeth and Catherine the Great. These raised positive relieve portraits were predominately of women, making this cameo's handsome and lifelike male portrayal a rare collectible. Originally purchased from the jeweler L. Rouvenat in Paris, this oval "hardstone" cameo is delicately carved from one piece of gemstone with a resulting pure white portrait dramatically contrasted against a polished jet black background. Set in 18K yellow gold and encircled by an inner row of diamonds and an outer border of natural pearls, the brooch is as fashionable today as it was in the Queen's Court.
Inclusive of original signed burgundy leather box with cobalt blue velvet lining and the owners stamped gold initials on the outside lid.
