OUR STORY
Walking past number eight of Via Bogino, Palazzo Balbo di Vinadio, a baroque building built in 1690 in Torino, you would little suspect that its grand façade conceals a 3300 sq. ft. chic gallery that more than a shop resembles to a 18th century noble town house containing a remarkable collection of design jewelry, antique silver and object d’art.
This is the story of a passion which started back in 1961 when Giorgio Jona, enthusiast, passionate collector of antiques decided to leave the stock exchange career to start his own business, dealing in antique silver, antique oriental art and gemstones for the creation of fine jewelry.
The company has grown since then, also thanks to the shared passion for the business by Giorgio's son, Alex, who felt the need to create jewelry which may be worn in every occasion.
Today Alex Jona is home to highly skilled craft people and support staff with the clear ambition to keep on growing.
Alex travels the world to discover extraordinary precious stones, pearls and diamonds with which he personally designs exquisite pieces of jewelry.

Alex Jona
When Alex Jona joined the Italian jewelry purveyor that his father, Giorgio Jona, had founded in 1961, the Jona brand began to offer elegant bracelets, cufflinks, necklaces and other accessories subdued enough for daily wear yet visually splendid and skillfully handcrafted using precious metals and stones.
Tucked in a 1690 Baroque building on Torino’s Palazzo Balbo di Vinadio is a 3,000-square-foot showroom. This is the headquarters of Jona, home to luxury jewelry designs that are complex, yet often understated. For example, a slender pair of yellow tourmaline drop earrings set into 18-carat gold has a juxtaposition creating just the slightest contrast, which might be noticed only upon close inspection.
Alex travels frequently, and precious stones collected from around the world are a common fixture in Jona jewelry — he personally designs pieces with stones like lapis lazuli shaped into eye-like cufflinks, sapphires caged in 14-carat-gold rings and quartz crystals stacked into modern beaded necklaces. Enamel, which is one of the oldest forms of surface decoration, is often arranged to create graphic, abstract patterns or cheekier winks, like miniature tennis balls on cufflinks. Even sparklier pieces, like diamond-encrusted earrings, bear an organic quality when arranged in the shape of a blooming daisy.
An innovative spirit can also be found in Jona’s collaborations, such as the partnership with Italian architect and jewelry designer Tiziana Redavid that yielded radical bracelets and necklaces made with stainless-steel springs. The result is a brand whose modern shapes and precious stones ride the line between traditional elegance and modern daring.

Jean-Louis Scherrer born in Paris in February. He was a Parisian fashion designer and couturier. Although he had name recognition and was known for his work, he is mainly noted for being the first couture designer to be sacked from their own-name label in 1992. Scherrer trained as a dancer at the Conservatoire de Paris until he injured his back, which put him out of action for three months. He then decided to focus on fashion design, and in 1956, joined Christian Dior as an assistant designer alongside Yves Saint Laurent. Following Dior's death in 1957, Scherrer worked under Saint Laurent, and then for Louis Féraud, before launching his own fashion house in 1962 on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré with the backing of Jacques Chabrol, a French millionaire. In the mid-1960s Scherrer had an agreement with the American department store Bergdorf Goodman to grant them exclusive rights to reproduce and resell his designs in the United States. His clients included Anne-Aymone Giscard d'Estaing, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Raquel Welch, who wore Scherrer animal-print dresses in the 1977 film L'Animal. By the 1980s, his work was known for its opulence and luxury, with many garments hand-beaded, embroidered and lavishly trimmed.
