About the Item

Cluster earrings designed by Donald Claflin (1935-1979) for Tiffany & Co. An exceptionally rare pieces, created in New York City at the Tiffany Studios by Donald Claflin, back in the 1960's. These beautiful bold pair of clips-earrings has been crafted with a circular shape, in solid yellow gold of 14 carats and suited with French omega backs for fastening clips. Embellished in the centers, with a cluster of 28 four-prongs setting, mounted with calibrated oval faceted cut (5 x 7 4 mm) of natural Brazilian blue aquamarines, with a combined weight of 21.56 carats. They are vivid blue, transparent and completely loupe clean. Accented in the center in a four-prongs setting, with a pair of round brilliant cut diamonds, 0.16 carats, F color, VS-1 clarity. They have a combined weight of 43.4 Grams and a diameter of 35 mm (1.38 Inches). Stamped, with the maker's mark, the gold assay hallmark and signed, "TIFFANY & CO. 14 KT". Donald Claflin (1935-1979) was an American jewelry designer most associated with the colorful and whimsical designs he created for tiffany & co. during the sixties and seventies. His start in jewelry came when he joined the firm of David Webb, known for their buoyantly enameled figurative jewels that were a fresh contrast to the formality of the fifties. In 1965 Claflin was hired by tiffany & co. to continue in the innovative and individualistic design approach that designer Jean Schlumberger had so successfully established at the firm. Note: Aquamarine gemstones are the birthstone of March. In ancient period, the Greeks and Romans thought of aquamarine as the sailor’s gem. They believed the blue gem would protect the travelers during storms while traveling across the seas. Ancient cultures also thought aquamarine was a token of love between dating and married couples. Now, it’s the official gemstone to celebrate a 19th marriage anniversary. Collateral: They are accompanied by a presentation jewelry box.
